Kent Prairie Elementary is located in Arlington just East of Highway 9. It sits east of 204th Street in a valley which was home to the Stillaguamish Tribe many years ago. Our school is named after the first school in Arlington that was established in 1886 on Kent's Prairie. When you visit the school you can see the photo of this original school hanging in the front office. (See a picture of the photo below.) The K-5 school was built in 1993 and was dedicated to the early settlers of this region.
Kent Prairie Elementary serves students in kindergarten through 5th grade. Our special education program includes a resource room, Structured Learning Environment (SLE) program, speech-language pathology, a school psychologist, and a number of remediation programs (Title Math and LAP Reading).
The students at Kent Prairie receive instruction from specialists each week in the areas of music, library, art and physical education. All Arlington Public School students enrolled in elementary grades are assigned an iPad that remains at school. This same iPad follows them from Kindergarten to 5th grade. Kent Prairie has a gifted program, a large 4th and 5th grade choir.
The Kent Prairie PTA is an integral part of our educational plan. They sponsor a variety of school wide projects to promote the arts, school wide assemblies, addressing safety issues, supporting classroom materials and field trips, creates the yearbook, and builds pride in the students. Through the PTA, Kent Prairie has been able to update the playground by refreshing the painted areas, building new playground structures, and provide recess equipment for all students to use. The PTA supports parental participation during the school day. They sponsor Family Fun Nights to bring school families together.
Kent Prairie's first principal Mrs. Bonnie Thielke (pictured above) served for twelve years, opening the school in 1993 and retiring in June 2005.
